A common theme that I hear amongst business leaders is a sense of loneliness. Once you get to a certain level in an organization, it becomes extremely difficult to find people to open up to about your questions, issues, and challenges. Some things are just hard to share with employees or managers.

This is where a leadership peer group can add a tremendous amount of value. Having a group of fellow leaders from non-competing industries provides you with a sounding board to bounce ideas off, and a source of mutual support. In many cases, these members have either been through a similar issue before, or can at least provide unique insights into different approaches to consider.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of several different groups like this. Having an unbiased team to share ideas and best practices has helped me think through difficult decisions and develop clear directions. The best groups also hold each other accountable for the actions we agree to take, helping to ensure that we are making improvements in our businesses and our personal lives.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to talk about it further, or help you find an amazing peer group in your area.
